2025 Advocacy Film Series: The Movement and the Madman + Ghosts of a Lost Cause
Celebrating 25 Years of Resilience
July 13, 2025 - Join SRWA in partnership with Sierra Club Georgia Chapter at The Plaza Theater for a FREE screening of The Movement and the Madman – a film chronicling the planning, commentary, and determination of organizers of a nationwide nonviolent protest against the Vietnam War. During intermission we’ll have a lively and collaborative discussion followed by an encore screening of Ghosts of a Lost Cause, a short film highlighting the stories of ordinary citizens who chose to fight in an “advocacy desert” to remove a confederate war monument in Murray, Kentucky during the 2020 Movement for Black Lives. Both films exhibit the power of resiliency and organized, nonviolent protest in the fight for justice.
Escape the heat and spend matinee with us! The Movement and the Madman, a 1.5 hr. film, begins at 2pm followed by an intermission and lively discussion with activists and filmmakers. Ghosts of a Lost Cause runs 30 min. and will begin at approximately 4:30.

SRWA is screening a series of documentaries through 2025 that inspire, empower and challenge us to stay in the game – protecting the environment and communities. As SRWA Board President, Jackie Echols, says: "Use it or lose it.". This mantra applies to recreational use, as well as the use of our voices and actions to protect the river.
